The Reason You Fail

Success is tough, no matter what anyone tells you.  You must work hard, insanely hard.  You must remain focused on your goals.  You must implement your plan… and still you fail. The reason you fail

Because you keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

Why do you keep doing this?

Because you can’t see that you’re doing it… you’re too close, or you’ve convinced yourself that you’re right.

Step back.  Far back.  Examine what you do on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

Something you are doing, or not doing, again and again… is causing you to fail.

No one else can stop it but you.  No one else can change your behavior but you.

But first you must seek out and face that repeated mistake, and stop doing it.

  • I have a saying: “Make many mistakes, but make a particular mistake only once.”

When we repeat mistakes, it means we didn’t learn from them. Only by recognizing and facing a mistake and learning from it can we do it differently and better the next time. And (unabashed plug here), working with a business/life coach can help with that! Cheers! Kaarina

Thanks Kaarina for stopping by. Great saying . Sadly, I run into the repeat mistakes regularly working with small businesses. Sometimes you need an outside set of eyes to help you SEE them.

  • Hi Amy,

I’ve found a great solution is to set something aside for at least a week. Sometimes you’re pushing too hard and can’t see the forest for the trees. When I’m buried in a project and getting nowhere fast, I’m usually focusing on minutiae and that means it’s time to step back or chuck it and start over.

Hi Ken… or go to your harshest critics and ask them to honestly tell you WHY they think you’re failing.  Sometimes a cold bucket of water does the trick.
